History is made.

Wow. The dawning of a new era of American leadership. How humbling its been to participate and witness a defining moment in our country’s (world’s?) history. Regardless of what side of the fence you’re on, it’s quite a milestone.

The faces in the crowd last night were what grabbed me. Looks of hope, optimism, triumph in the face of adversity, even some apprehension and fear from those who were having trouble coming to terms with the reality. In Chicago, the electricity was palpable.

The world cares, too. CNN this morning showed celebrations around the world in places like Athens, Greece, Italy, France, and countries across Asia. There are happy people out there, people tapping into their desire to truly find a new voice, a new hope for the future of diplomacy. For the future of unity, possibility, and hard work.

Yes, hard work. As our president-elect said last night, the challenges we are facing now are some of the hardest we have faced in our lifetime. They will be steep, difficult challenges with uncertain outcomes, and undoubtedly missteps and setbacks. We need to realize that hope is the the start, but that there is a great deal of difficult decisions ahead of us that will affect us all.

I rarely speak my political mind in public as I find it alienates people. But I am hopeful. I am optimistic. I am humbled and wide-eyed by the amazing freedom we are granted to voice our desire for something different. There are millions of people across the world without a voice. Let us steward the causes that affect us all, the goal for sound policies and decisions that unify rather than divide. Let us roll up our sleeves and get the hell to work making our country and our footprint on the planet one that is in harmony with humanity.

Good morning, optimism. Where have you been? I saved a seat for you right over here.

You bet your ass we did.

Well said. This will be hard work, but it’s nice to be hopeful and not fearful.
